October 29, 2009

Getting rid of acne is at the top of any acne sufferer’s list. Acne, comes in different forms and, looks and often feels unpleasant. Anyone who has acne wants to get rid of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Keep in mind that acne comes in various types and that several factors can cause acne; therefore, to cure acne you have to take these factors into consideration.

Before we talk about actual acne treatments, here are some tips that will help you clear acne.

– Keep your hands away from your face, or other acne prone parts of your body unless you absolutely have to. And you have to, wash your hands beforehand. Touching transfers dirt and oil and can irritate your skin, making a great place for a breakout.

– Change your pillowcases and bed covers and sheets frequently (replace your pillowcase every day if you can).

– Always wear clean clothing, even night wear (this means only wear a piece of clothing one time and then wash before wearing again). We may not wear something for long and then just throw it back on again before we wash it; or think that because we’re just sleeping in our night wear, that they’re not dirty when in reality they have picked up dirt, oil and sloughed off dry skin. Acne prone individuals must be mindful of this.

– Shower or take a bath frequently. Avoid skipping a day, that’s a terrible thing for acne prone skin. Cleanse your face in the morning and at night before bedtime (and even sometime in between if your skin is very oily).

– Pay attention to the ingredients in your detergent and fabric softener, some detergents include perfumes or other irritant ingredients. Use a ‘clean’ detergent.

– Keep hair out of your face to prevent oil transfer to your face from your hair and hair products (which can contain ingredients that contribute to pore clogging). If your hair has to be in your face (bangs, etc.) clean the areas it touches often and have oil sheets handy to dab on those areas of your face during the day to reduce oil.

– Drink at least 8 glasses of water! Water purifies your body and skin inside and out.

The tips listed here are important to achieving clear skin and get rid of acne. Next we’ll talk about various acne treatments.

For getting rid of acne fast, you’ll need to utilize treatments that have salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. There are various products that include one of these ingredients from face washes to gels that remain on the skin. For a bad breakout, you might consider the face wash and the gel being placed on the actual pimples or breakout areas (skipping non infected areas to prevent too much drying out). You can use white toothpaste on a pimple to help reduce it overnight (don’t use anything other than white or you may color your skin). Using a face wash that also contains exfoliant beads is good for exfoliating while cleansing your face.

Never pop pimples. They only become uglier and you risk spreading the bacteria to other areas, just begging for another pimple to pop up.

No matter the type of acne you have to deal with, you can be acne free if you’re aware of the things that cause acne. Knowledge is the best acne treatment.

Getting rid of acne isn’t about popping pimples as they appear, it’s about taking the proper steps to prevent it.
