Sometimes the easiest way to a makeover is with your wardrobe. Sort through your closet and toss anything that no longer fits or is out of style. If anything needs drycleaning or mending, put it aside so you can take care of it as soon as you get a chance. Now, make a list of the basic items you need. How many of them are still left in the closet following the purge? Those items will be the very least you need. Begin with neutral or black quality slacks, comfortable jeans that are not torn or damaged, a black dress suitable for most events, a cozy sweater or cardigan, walking shorts, and a variety of long and short sleeve t-shirts. Also consider adding tanks and camisoles on this list, as well as an oxford or button down shirt. Depending upon your where you work, you will also want one quality suit.

Now that you aware of your needs head to the store. Make sure you wear good fitting undergarments so you will have a good indication of how the new clothing fits your body. Try on all of the outfits before buying, and if you can, bring along a shopping buddy. Having a second opinion you can trust is a key to success, head to the stylist. If you are feeling lucky, and you can trust your stylist, leave the decisions up to them Tell them you are ready for a major change and then sit back and relax. If you are not that brave, describe a basic style, like how short you are willing to go. If you still want to give them some input, alter the color and let them decide on the shade.

Head over to the beauty counter. Often, the salespeople will complete a makeover for free, as long as you are prepared to purchase some of the products they use. Listen to their advice so you can use them at home. When the makeover finishes, decide which items are must haves and make the purchase. After a long shopping experience, you have done it. You have created a whole new you.
